Apple's new iPod touch

Apple launches colourful new iPod touch 16GB

Apple has launched a new version of its bottom-of-the-range iPod touch, adding a rear-facing camera and the pallette of five colours from the more expensive models

Apple has quietly updated its cheapest iPod touch device, the 16GB model, which now comes in a range of five colours like its more expensive versions. Previously it was only available in grey.

The device retains the four inch “retina” screen and A5 processor of the previous 16GB version, which was a throwback to the previous generation of iPod touch, but adds a five megapixel iSight camera to the existing FaceTime HD camera.

Apple has launched the new version in the US, but it is not yet available to buy in the UK. Instead, the UK Apple Store website shows the old model as "currently unavailable".

The new version costs $199 in the US, down from the previous model's $229 price tag.
The update comes as two different iPhones - with 4.7in and 5.5in screens - are rumoured to have gone into production. The current iPhone 5s sports a 4in display.
